SUPPORTING OUR CAMPESINX COMMUNITY
Who We Are
Hijas del Campo is a Contra Costa County based non-profit organization that aims to help migrant and seasonal farmworkers, along with their families, to improve their daily life, working conditions, health, and safety. Our goal is to ensure that every farmworker has access to basic necessities.
The Problem
Farmworkers and their families are being left behind.
Income Below Poverty
In California, roughly 40% of households with farmworker income are below the poverty line. Most of them are excluded from the right to overtime pay.
Lack Insurance Coverage
Up to 70% of Farmworkers lack insurance coverage for health care expenses.
Graduating Chance
Children of migrant farmworkers have a 10% chance of graduating High School.
Received Food Stamps
In 2019, only 15% of farmworkers in California received food stamps and 43% received health insurance through a government program, like Medicaid.
